Bottle Opener
I did a project to design a product for older people, I chose out of four sectors; Food, mobility, Living and Personal care. There for I did research with specialties witch are working with people above the age of 65. After the research I saw a lot of problem this target group got in their normal lives. Therefor I chose the work area “Food” witch got the most opportunities to design an aid.
Older people decreased the strength of their body and hands; they can’t open the most simple drink bottles.
I designed an opener for the caps on the bottles. Most caps on bottles have got different sizes and need to be opened with just one tool. In order to design a tool to open all kind off sizes, I used a triangle witch can handle a large size circle up to a small circle. The largest DIN cap size is 32 mm and the smallest DIN cap size is 20 mm, because off the triangle is there the possibility to open all sizes in-between. The rib inside the model will cause friction to open caps from the bottles. On top is an opening to press out the stuck caps.
After a small research about DIN sizes from hands of people from the age of 65, I made a little smaller ergonomic shape to get the right felling with the product.
The product should be working like a handspike to open caps from bottles with less power from the hands, witch older people got.
The model is a 3d print from golden PET to get the most realistic feeling and touch with the product to see if it works.
